New shoe press belt “Yamabelt Aikido”

A perfect fit.

Top class shoe press belts have a name: Yamabelt. In terms of lifetime and dewatering capability the belts have been setting benchmark standards for many years. With Aikido Yamabelt has once again come up with improved characteristics and reduced tendency towards crack formation.

When German engineering skills and Japanese inventive ingenuity come together the result cannot fail to impress. In this case, profound knowledge and understanding of the efficient dewatering of press felts meets decades of experience in coating and finishing of roll covers and shoe press belts. This is demonstrated in particular in the case of Yamabelt, which has been continually refined since 2010 as a result of close collaboration between Yamauchi and Heimbach.

Yamabelt has always been characterised by maintaining a high level of void volume while exhibiting a low risk of cracking. The belt consists of a two-ply coating, which allows it to respond to the different demands of both the smooth (shoe facing) as well as the grooved (felt facing) sides.

The void volume of Yamabelt must be able to withstand the line load in the nip and remain at a constant level throughout its life. Long service life in particular can lead to reduced void volume due to absorption of process chemicals. The stronger the line loads the more adversely affected the dimensional stability of the grooves in the nip can be. These effects can reinforce each other and negatively affect dewatering performance.

A powerful duo: Yamabelt Kendo and Yamabelt Judo

In early 2015 the successful collaboration between Heimbach and Yamamauchi led to an extension of the product range courtesy of the two designs, Kendo and Judo.

Kendo has been successful in ensuring the further improvement of void volume preservation. Its robust groove design prevents crack formation and propogation. The consistent high void volume over the entire lifetime of the belt is very significant.

To complement Kendo we offer the Judo belt for positions that tend to crack in the area of the shoe edges. Its polyurethane is extremely flexible and therefore able to withstand the highest demands.

Even more resilient: The new Yamabelt Aikido

The latest result of longstanding intensive research between Heimbach and Yamauchi is Aikido. In this case the proven characteristics of Judo / Kendo were combined and enhanced by a newly developed polyurethane formulation. This design specifically meets continually rising demands in terms of mechanical load capacity (line loads of currently up to 1400 kN/m).
